The Lion’s Mane is a member of the unusual teethed fungi, which form tooth-like structures instead of gills. The mature mushrooms look like pink tinted-white pom-poms. This is an aggressive species that spontaneously forms primordia on malt agar and sawdust substrates but may be slow to colonize grain spawn. The mushroom develops quickly once initiated and can form from a tiny primordia to a large, ready to harvest mushroom in one week or less.

About Our Lions Mane Mushroom Liquid Culture Syringe:

Lion’s Mane Liquid Culture Syringe contains actively growing mycelium of the unique gourmet mushroom species Hericium erinaceus, commonly recognized for its cascading white “teeth” and dense pom-pom appearance. Unlike gilled mushrooms such as oyster or cubensis varieties, Lion’s Mane belongs to a fascinating group of fungi known as tooth fungi, producing soft spine-like structures instead of traditional gills. Under proper conditions, mature Lion’s Mane mushrooms develop into thick clusters of snowy white tendrils that resemble flowing icicles or a lion’s mane.

Native to hardwood forests throughout North America, Europe, and Asia, Lion’s Mane naturally grows on decaying hardwood trees where it helps break down organic material within forest ecosystems. This species has become increasingly popular among gourmet mushroom enthusiasts due to its distinctive seafood-like texture and rapid fruiting characteristics. Many growers compare the flavor and texture of fresh Lion’s Mane mushrooms to crab or lobster when cooked.

Our 10cc Lion’s Mane liquid culture syringe is prepared in a sterile laboratory environment using contamination-free techniques to provide vigorous, healthy mycelial growth. Lion’s Mane is considered an aggressive species once established and is well known for producing thick white mycelium on agar and supplemented hardwood substrates. While colonization on grain can occasionally progress slower than some oyster mushroom species, Lion’s Mane often responds with explosive fruiting growth once conditions are introduced.

One of the most fascinating traits of Lion’s Mane is the speed at which the mushrooms can develop after pinning begins. Under ideal humidity and fresh air conditions, tiny primordia can rapidly transform into fully formed harvest-ready mushrooms in as little as one week. Mature fruiting bodies commonly develop soft white cascading spines that continue elongating as the mushroom matures.

Lion’s Mane liquid culture is commonly used on:

  • Sterilized grain spawn
  • Hardwood sawdust substrates
  • Master Mix substrates
  • Supplement hardwood blocks
  • Malt agar plates for microscopy and culture expansion

Each Premium Spores Lion’s Mane Liquid Culture Syringe includes:

  • One 10cc sterile liquid culture syringe
  • One sterile 16-gauge needle
  • One alcohol prep pad
  • Sterile packaging for contamination prevention

At Premium Spores, all liquid culture syringes are produced in our state-of-the-art ISO-7 cleanroom laboratory and backed by our contamination-free guarantee. Our team has specialized in mushroom cultures and microscopy products since 2013, providing carefully prepared cultures for gourmet mushroom enthusiasts, researchers, and microscopy work.

Lion’s Mane remains one of the most visually striking gourmet mushroom species available today, prized for its unusual tooth-like morphology, dense white growth, and vigorous fruiting potential. Whether observed during colonization or as mature fruiting bodies, Hericium erinaceus continues to stand out as one of the most unique fungi in the mushroom world.

I have always had success with the liquid Lion’s Mane culture from Premium spores. These spores are shipped in vials, but they do a great job of packaging them, so I have never had a damaged or broken vial. Nice work!
