The Psilocybe cubensis Red Boy mushrooms are unique and somewhat rare. It was very popular in the 90s with many researchers and many thought it was lost after almost disappearing. Red Boy mushrooms reportedly resurfaced in cultivation after being revived from old spores preserved by the mycology community, sometimes attributed to work by cultivator “RogerRabbit”,  a well-known user on the Shroomery message board.  They say that it was ”resuscitated” by crossing original ungerminated red boy spores and a cubensis from Puerto Rico.  Some say it was accidentally discovered out in a pasture in Florida and when prints were made, they noticed they were red. Red Boy mushrooms have big caps in the shape of a bell.  The Red spore trait is rare in cubensis and it produces very visually distinctive spore prints.
